People of Charlotte, meet dentist Dr. Duc Tang. His practice, Promenade Center for Dentistry in Ballanytne provides superior quality care for their patients. Not only is Dr. Tang highly skilled, but his friendly and calm demeanor make him extremely popular among patients. When someone enters Promenade Center for Dentistry, they find a welcoming environment and staff that values patients and treats them with professionalism. Dr. Tang and his wife, a physician, have two young sons.
What was your path to living and working in Charlotte?
I grew up in southern California and moved to Charlotte when I was 16, back in 1997. Then I went to Chapel Hill for undergrad and dental school. After that, I moved to St. Louis with my wife, so she could do her residency. We came back and settled in Charlotte in 2014.
What made you decide to become a dentist?
My sister and I graduated college together and she was thinking about becoming a dentist. I also had a few friends who were considering it. The more I thought about it, it seemed like the right thing more me. I shadowed a local dentist and the more I saw and the more I talked to him, the stronger I felt about it. I realized that I really liked this.
Can you describe your work as a general dentist?
As a general dentist, a lot of my work has to do with treating cavities. But I also do extractions, Invisalign, dental implants, and simple root canals. Of course, we also do a lot of cleanings.
How do you respond to patients that have a fear of the dentist?
We deal with that often, and there are things we can do to help in that situation. I try to reassure patients that everything is going to be okay and that they’re going to get through it. If it’s a more complicated procedure, there are other options we can use to help people relax. We also have nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas.
What’s the best part of your work?
I really like working with patients, and I value the time I spend with them. And I also like the time I spend with my staff. We have a great team here.
What’s a typical work week like?
On Mondays, I’m in the office—but typically doing a lot of administrative work. I’m dealing with different aspects of the running the practice. I also see emergencies on Mondays, as well as other times. It’s important to be able to fit people in when they’re having a problem that needs attention.
Take us through your day.
Normally I take my five-year-old to kindergarten, and I walk him into his class. We’re a busy dental practice, and we start around 8—usually beginning with cleanings. We work until 1 p.m. and then take a lunch break. I usually go next store to work out at Anytime Fitness. Then from 2-5 we’re working. I usually get out around 5:30, after everything is wrapped up.
What are some of your favorite things about living in Charlotte?
We love Charlotte. I live in the Dilworth area and love seeing how it’s growing. We really enjoy the restaurant scene here. It seems like there’s always something new to see or do in Charlotte.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
One thing I used to do a lot was biking. But that was before kids. Now the bikes are in the garage.
